Idle Hands — a multiplayer office idle game

Points accrue while you're away. You buy the things that earn faster, react when the office throws an event at you, and compete on a weekly leaderboard — with office politics as a mechanic.

Play the original game

The real game — its own map, renderer, HUD, panels and events — running in your browser with invented co-workers.

  1. Badge in with any name, then scroll the agreement and sign.
  2. Walk with the arrow keys or by tapping the floor; open anything you walk up to.
  3. Work at your desk, hire staff, and watch what co-workers do to you. The bottom bar can bring on an event, a printer jam, a meeting or the good chair; Reset starts over.

Open the game full screen

What is different from the hosted game: the co-workers are invented and simulated (they walk, earn, hire and act on their own); names and branding are fictional; the server's rules — prices, deeds, buffs, restructuring — are re-implemented in the page, because the originals live in the game's database; nothing is saved beyond this browser and Reset starts over. The demo clock can be advanced to show scheduled events.

How the real game works

  • A server-checked economy. Earning, buying and every social action go through about fifty database functions that check the rules and the balance, so editing the page can't grant points.
  • Play first, sign up later. One click creates an anonymous player; an e-mail can be attached later to keep progress on another device.
  • Weekly seasons with a recap, so newcomers can compete; live office events every connected player sees at once.
  • One static page talking to its database directly — no build step.

My part

Concept, game design and rules, and directing the build with AI assistance. The repository shows files uploaded through the web; who wrote which parts is not recorded there.
